TOP SABC newsreader, Noxolo Mtshali-Mwali, has made an unexpected U-turn.
This comes after she left the public broadcaster for five months.
The 36-year-old presenter from Ulundi in KZN will be back as the 7pm isiZulu newsreader on SABC1 on Monday, 2 September.
Noxolo shocked many when she left the public broadcaster in April 2024 after she’s been with the channel for 15 years.
Viewers thought she had found greener pastures as many SABC workers were poached by Newzroom Afrika and Nguni news on Mzansi Wethu.
Noxolo told Daily Sun it’s true she’s made a comeback. She said after she left the SABC, people were always asking her when they would see her on TV again.
“My managers at the SABC called, we sat down, had discussions and I agreed to come back. I started working at the SABC when I was still young. I grew up there, and have learned a lot over the years,” said Noxolo.
She said it was easy for her to return.
“On my social media platforms, I would find lots of messages asking the same thing daily. So, that really humbled me. I love my viewers because they’ve supported and shown me love all these years. I enjoyed the break and spending time with family, but now it’s back to the grind, and I’m focusing on working and giving it my all.”
Asked why she resigned in April, Nxolo said there were some disagreements, and she decided not to renew her contract.
There was no bad blood between her and the SABC as there was mutual understanding, she said.
She returns as Sakhiwo Sokhela, who replaced her, was recently sacked by the SABC after she allegedly didn’t show up for work.
