The civic reception of chief advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus in New York (NY) has been cancelled. He was scheduled to be officially given the reception on Thursday evening (September 26), in the ballroom of the Marriott Marquis Hotel near Times Square in Manhattan.
The event was jointly organized by the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations and the Consul General of Bangladesh in New York. The programme was cancelled due to protests by various Bangladeshi expatriate groups in New York.
The Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the Consul General of Bangladesh in New York admitted the cancellation of the reception but refrained from saying anything about the exact reason.
It is learnt that a big sum of money has already been paid to the Marriott Marquis Hotel management for holding the reception programme. Source: Jugantar
